Ever wonder what those annoying Numbered Error pages And Redirect pages mean?
What is 404 Page Not Found
A 404 page error is type of 'catch all' page redirect. It indicates that the client can communicate with server, however the server cannot find the URL requested.
The 404 or aka - Not Found error message is the most common page error you come across. It is an HTTP standard response code indicating that the client could communicate with the server but the server could not find the page that was requested. Causes for this error may be that a link used to access the page is incorrect or the page may have been moved.
Very few visitors that encounter a 404 page make a second attempt to find the missing page. In an attempt to assist site visitors, web page owners can provide a customized version of the '404 page error message' that gives their visitors more information about the error and additional options to help them find the content they are looking for, thus keeping the site visitor on your site and engaged in your content. For more information read "Creating useful 404 pages" by Google 'Scroll Over the 404 Page Error image above to see what an optional 404 Error Message could look like'.
